A Consistent Bedtime Could Be the Key to Lowering High Blood Pressure

Nearly 120 million adults in the US live with high blood pressure, a condition linked to over 660,000 deaths in 2023. Now, new research suggests a simple habit could help manage it: going to bed at the same time every night. Scientists found that sticking to a consistent bedtime may lower blood pressure in people with hypertension.

The study, led by researchers at the University of Gothenburg, involved 11 adults aged 45 to 62 with high blood pressure. All participants were classified as obese, and their average age was 53. Over two weeks, they adjusted their sleep schedules to reduce bedtime variability.

The study suggests that a consistent bedtime may offer a straightforward method to lower blood pressure. With hypertension affecting millions, this approach could provide a practical, non-medical option for improving heart health. The findings were published in a peer-reviewed journal, though the specific publication was not named.
