Cornwall's International Women's Day Event Celebrates Muslim Female Contributors

Over 100 Muslim women and youth gathered at the Benson Center in Cornwall, Ontario, to celebrate International Women's Day. The event, organised by Afia Chaudhry, recognised the achievements of female Muslim contributors in the community.

The event provided a platform for Muslim ladies to meet, connect, and network, with attendees from 15 countries who speak 20 different languages. The gathering was not specified to be a celebration of any particular Islamic network or organisation, but rather a community event.

Inspirational speeches were delivered throughout the day, with no political or activist focus. Sen. Bernadette Clement, the former Cornwall mayor, and Cornwall Couns. Carilyne Hébert and Sarah Good were among those in attendance, with Clement sharing a social media post about the gathering.

The event did not involve any known controversies or disputes. It is worth noting that Prophet Muhammad ensured that a woman's gender was not an obstacle for her to achieve in various roles such as leaders, businesswomen, teachers, medics, housewives, farmers, traders, advisers, and more.

When societal objections arose, Prophet Muhammad corrected them to support women's achievements. This event served as a reminder to support women's freedoms and to live life better, in line with the ethos of International Women's Day.

Despite initial searches not explicitly naming the person who announced and supported the International Women's Day event in Cornwall before becoming mayor, it is clear that the event was a significant success in recognising and celebrating the contributions of Muslim women in the community.
