AKH Vienna's President Marks Progress in Working Atmosphere and Career Advice

The AKH Vienna, currently ranked 27th internationally, has seen improvements in its working atmosphere, according to Markus Müller, a professor and President of the Supreme Health Council. Müller, who spent his early years in precarious employment, shares insights on medicine's evolution and career advice for youth.

Müller, a professor of internal medicine and clinical pharmacology, has witnessed significant changes in the medical field. He recalls a 'medicine glut' when he began his studies in the mid-1980s, despite there being half as many doctors as today. Müller believes that technology, like mobile phones, has become affordable and integral to patient care.

Müller praises the AKH's progress, with about half of the clinic directors now coming from abroad and more women in leadership positions. He attributes this to a better working atmosphere. Müller also acknowledges the trend towards alternative medicine, stating it can be integrated if helpful to patients, but should not replace science-based medicine.

Müller advises young people to focus on their talents and listen to their heart when choosing a career, especially in medicine. He speaks from experience, having found his early precarious employment relationships rewarding. Müller, however, regrets the politically decided mandatory vaccination for the new coronavirus, believing it eroded trust.

Müller's tenure as President of the Supreme Health Council has seen the AKH Vienna's international ranking improve and its working atmosphere enhance. Müller's insights into medicine's evolution and career advice offer valuable perspectives for youth aspiring to enter the field.
