Altai Krai Sets Sugar Intake Guidelines for Children
Altai Krai's health authority has set guidelines for children's sugar intake. The regional Rospotrebnadzor advises limiting daily sugar consumption to 25 grams or less, with varying amounts for different age groups.
Younger school-age children should consume between 10 to 15 grams of sugar daily, equivalent to a couple of small cookies, a piece of marshmallow, a wafer, or a slice of fruit paste. Older students can have up to 25 grams.
The authority recommends opting for nutritious treats like fruit pastes, marshmallows, fruit-based marmalade, and candied fruit. High-quality milk chocolate is also acceptable due to its lower caffeine content. A small treat can be enjoyed after breakfast or physical activity, but not before meals. Children's cravings for sweets naturally increase during growth spurts, high physical activity, and intense mental work.
Rospotrebnadzor in Altai Krai advises parents to monitor their children's sugar intake, encouraging natural juices over sugary nectars. The guidelines aim to promote healthier eating habits among children in the region.
