Anthrax cases confirmed in Romania confirmed

In a recent development, two unusual cases of infectious diseases have been reported in Bucharest, Romania.

A 69-year-old man is currently hospitalised with a confirmed case of malaria. This is the first reported case in Romania without a history of travel to malaria-endemic countries, according to medical experts. The patient is receiving specific antimalarial care and is in stable condition.

Simultaneously, another patient is battling a mild cutaneous form of anthrax, while the other has a moderate form without any risk of complications. Both patients are currently hospitalised and in stable condition. The source of the anthrax outbreak in Bucharest remains unknown, despite investigations by the Bucharest Public Health Directorate.

The Ministry of Health has issued a statement, confirming that both patients received appropriate treatment and care from the moment anthrax was suspected. They have also stated that the risk of human-to-human transmission of anthrax is extremely low.

Since the beginning of the year, 21 cases of malaria have been reported in Romania. However, the Ministry of Health has not mentioned any statements regarding the risk of human-to-human transmission of malaria.

In an interesting turn of events, both patients are believed to have been infected by handling and consuming meat from a sheep raised in their household.

The Cantacuzino National Institute for Medical-Military Research confirmed two cases of anthrax in patients at the Matei Bals National Institute for Infectious Diseases in Bucharest on July 10.

The Bucharest Public Health Directorate is conducting an epidemiological investigation to determine the source of the outbreaks and to prevent further cases. The public is advised to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to avoid infection.
