Asbury Hospice House breaks ground on £3M expansion for end-of-life care
A groundbreaking ceremony has marked the start of major expansions at the Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg. The project, funded by a £3 million campaign, will add new facilities to support families and patients receiving end-of-life care. Construction began around three weeks ago and is set to finish by spring 2027.
The upgrades will introduce a larger family area, dedicated children's play spaces, and a pavilion for special family gatherings. A bigger onsite pharmacy will also be included in the plans. These additions aim to create a calm, supportive setting where patients receive expert medical care with dignity and compassion.
Martha Dearman, executive director of the Forrest Health Foundation, spoke at the ceremony. She highlighted the importance of providing space for meaningful moments during difficult times. The foundation's efforts have already secured the full £3 million needed for the project.
Work on the Asbury Hospice House expansion is now underway, with completion expected in early 2027. The new facilities will enhance support for patients and their families during end-of-life care. No details on increased bed capacity have been released so far.
