Assam Hosts Advanced Training on Vitamin Testing in Fortified Rice
A three-day technical training program on vitamin analysis took place in Assam from January 28 to 30, 2026. Organised by FSSAI, SPHL Assam, and Sciex Bangalore, the event focused on advanced testing methods for fortified rice. Participants gathered at the Commissionerate of Food Safety in Assam for hands-on instruction.
The program aimed to teach experts how to measure and verify Vitamin B9 and B12 in Fortified Rice (FR) and Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK). The training relied on LC-MS/MS technology, a precise method for detecting these nutrients. This was part of broader efforts to ensure accurate fortification standards in food products.
Over the past five years, similar workshops have been held worldwide. In 2022, the FDA in the US conducted training on folate and B12 analysis. The following year, EFSA in Europe ran a comparable session. Global webinars by AOAC International and contributions from companies like Nestlé and DSM Nutritional Products have also supported these educational initiatives.
The Assam training builds on years of international collaboration in food safety testing. Experts now have updated skills to assess fortified rice quality using modern equipment. This will help maintain consistent standards in India's food fortification programs.
