Bacolod City Council Approves 24/7 Mental Health Hotline

Bacolod City Council has passed a resolution urging the establishment of a 24/7 Mental Health and Crisis Hotline. This move aims to provide timely and accessible mental health care to Bacolodnons, reinforcing the mandate of the Mental Health Act (Republic Act 11036).

The hotline, to be operated by the Bacolod City Health Office, will be staffed by trained and licensed mental health practitioners. It will be linked directly to Bacolod 911, the City Social Services and Development Office, hospitals, schools, and relevant agencies. Services provided will include psychological first aid, risk assessment for suicide and violence, immediate counseling, and emergency referral to hospitals and support agencies. The resolution also calls for a strong and sustained public information campaign to ensure every household is aware of the hotline number and its services.

The Bacolod City Council's resolution underscores its commitment to mental health care, ensuring that every Filipino in Bacolod has access to timely, affordable, and accessible mental health services. The hotline, once operational, will serve as a crucial lifeline for those in need.
