Bangladesh pioneers next-gen stroke care with global expert insights
A significant scientific session focused on transforming acute stroke care and developing next-generation neurointervention services took place at a recent conference. Organised by the Bangladesh Medical University's neurology department, the event was attended by BMU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam and other distinguished figures.
The conference highlighted the importance of stroke prevention, with key strategies including controlling high blood pressure, avoiding smoking, eliminating unhealthy eating habits, and combating physical inactivity. To ensure widespread awareness, Professor Alam emphasised the need to integrate stroke prevention education from schools to workplaces and into urban planning.
Stroke is a major health concern in Bangladesh, serving as the leading cause of death and disability, with a significant proportion of cases being preventable. The vice-chancellor expressed optimism that the conference would open new horizons in stroke treatment management, with the help of foreign experts in attendance. These experts, though not named, were crucial in advancing stroke treatment and sharing the latest innovations in emergency stroke care and neurointervention technologies.
With nearly 80 per cent of strokes preventable through lifestyle changes, the conference at Bangladesh Medical University underscored the importance of prevention and the latest treatment options. The presence of foreign experts and the commitment of local authorities promise a future of improved stroke care and management in Bangladesh.
