BayCare, Florida Blue Reach Last-Minute Deal, but 5,500 Medicare Members Left in Limbo

BayCare Health System and Florida Blue have reached a last-minute deal, ensuring around 200,000 patients can continue seeing their BayCare doctors. However, approximately 5,500 Medicare Advantage members were not included in the agreement, leaving them with tough choices and limited time to make decisions.

The deal, finalized just days before the previous contract was set to expire, allows Florida Blue Medicare Advantage members to keep their BayCare doctors without facing out-of-network costs. However, about 5,500 members, who are currently grandfathered into their plans and primarily use BayCare services, will be affected. These members will have to decide between switching insurance companies or finding new doctors within Florida Blue's network. Florida Blue is assisting affected members by matching them to a care team specializing in Medicare, close to their home, to minimize disruption. Open enrollment begins next week, giving seniors a chance to explore their options, but also leaving them with difficult decisions ahead.

While the deal between BayCare and Florida Blue ensures continued care for many, around 5,500 Medicare Advantage members must now navigate their healthcare options. Florida Blue is providing support during this transition, but seniors are encouraged to act promptly during the open enrollment period to ensure the best possible care.
