BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi hospitalised with respiratory infection in Dhaka
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, a senior leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has been hospitalised due to a respiratory infection. He was admitted to Square Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday after experiencing breathing difficulties and a high fever. His condition has since shown slight improvement, with doctors closely monitoring his recovery.
Rizvi, who served as the BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General since 2016, was taken to Square Hospital for urgent care. His role in the party involved managing key operations, delivering public speeches, and coordinating opposition activities against the ruling Awami League. Upon admission, medical staff confirmed a respiratory infection and placed him under the supervision of Dr Raihan Rabbani.
By Wednesday, his oxygen levels began to stabilise, and his requirement for supplemental oxygen decreased. Doctors advised complete rest for the coming days to aid his recovery. Visitors have also been restricted to prevent further spread of infection.
Despite his illness, Rizvi reportedly asked about the recent election and voter turnout upon waking on Wednesday morning. That same evening, BNP chairman Tarique Rahman visited the hospital to check on his condition. Meanwhile, Rizvi's family has requested public prayers for his swift recovery.
Rizvi remains under medical observation at Square Hospital, where his health continues to show gradual signs of improvement. His treatment will focus on rest and infection control, with limited access to visitors. The BNP leadership and supporters await updates on his progress in the coming days.
