Bohana's Crunchy Water Lily Seeds Win Over Shark Tank Investors
A healthy snack brand called Bohana has gained attention after appearing on Shark Tank. Founded by Priyal Bhartia and Nadine Habayeb, the company offers popped water lily seeds as a nutritious alternative to popcorn. The product draws inspiration from a traditional Indian snack but has been given a modern, health-focused twist.
Bohana's story began with Priyal Bhartia's childhood memories of eating water lily seeds. These seeds, also traditionally prepared by Indigenous peoples in Brazil's Pantanal region, are now the base of Bohana's crunchy, protein-packed snack. The product is gluten-free, non-GMO, and vegan, with no added sugar or preservatives. It comes in four flavours: original, Himalayan pink salt, black pepper, and rosemary sea salt.
On *Shark Tank*, Nadine Habayeb pitched Bohana, asking for a $200,000 investment in exchange for 10% equity, valuing the company at $2 million. Barbara Corcoran offered $200,000 for 30% equity, but Habayeb declined. Instead, she accepted Kevin O'Leary's proposal: a $200,000 loan at 8% interest for 8% equity. Popcorn remains a popular snack for its salty, crunchy texture, often enjoyed during films or as a topping in sweet and savoury dishes. Bohana, however, positions itself as a healthier option—high in fibre, protein, and antioxidants—while still delivering a satisfying crunch.
Bohana's deal on Shark Tank secures funding to expand its reach. The snack offers a nutrient-rich alternative to traditional popcorn, appealing to health-conscious consumers. With its clean ingredients and bold flavours, the brand aims to grow in the competitive snack market.
