Bupa’s Melbourne event tackles migrant health and workforce challenges in Australia
Bupa Australia is set to host a significant event, 'Thriving in Australia's Workforce', on Friday 21 November 2025 at their Melbourne campus. This lunchtime gathering marks the launch of Bupa's insightful whitepaper, 'The Hidden Strain on Migrant Health', aiming to shed light on migrants' experiences and support their workforce readiness and wellbeing.
The event will feature key speakers such as Abul Rizvi, Andrea Christie-David, Kerrilyn Stratford, Simon Uzunovski, Mark Kopec, and Traci Chen, who is a renowned migration expert and host of the YouTube channel 'My Great Australian Dream'. The whitepaper delves into the challenges migrants face when accessing the Australian workforce and health system, with 72% citing the country's health system as a key factor in their decision to migrate here.
The research also reveals that 64% of migrants believe private health cover makes healthcare more affordable, yet 56% report cost and time off work as major barriers to seeking care. Fear of losing their visa and financial stress are identified as significant sources of stress for migrants. The event is free and eligible for CPD accreditation, encouraging professionals to attend and contribute to the conversation.
Bupa's 'Thriving in Australia's Workforce' event and accompanying whitepaper highlight the importance of understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by migrants in the Australian workforce and health system. By doing so, we can foster a more supportive environment that enables migrants to thrive and contribute to our diverse and vibrant nation.
