CAHEC Nutrition Initiative Distributes Over 50,000 Meals Through Food Distributions and School Pantries
The 2025 Nutrition Assistance Initiative by Feeding America Eastern Carolinas (CAHEC) has delivered over 50,000 meals across North Carolina. The programme also provided essential toiletries and grocery vouchers to struggling households in multiple cities.
Stefanie Lee, CAHEC’s Community Relations Manager, highlighted that the effort ensures residents have access to healthy food all year round.
In Greensboro, CAHEC partnered with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. Together, they distributed more than 37,000 pounds of food, equating to 31,029 meals. The initiative supported 243 seniors, 404 children, and 394 adults in the area.
Rocky Mount received 21,029 pounds of food, providing around 17,524 meals. Meanwhile, CAHEC’s School Choice pantries at Southeast Raleigh High School and Sanderson High School handed out 4,203 pounds of food. The Nutrition Assistance Initiative forms part of CAHEC’s wider Community Investments program. By expanding beyond housing support, the organisation aims to improve overall community well-being.
The initiative reached thousands of families through food distributions and essential supplies. CAHEC’s work demonstrates how housing providers can extend their role to address broader health and nutrition needs. The programme’s impact continues to grow as it supports vulnerable groups across the state.
