Chlorine leak triggers emergency response after cleaning mix-up in Kaufbeuren

A chlorine smell in Kaufbeuren led to a major emergency response on Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters rushed to Märzenbachweg after reports of a strong chemical odour in the area. Over 20 responders and five vehicles were sent to investigate the source.

The incident began when different cleaning agents were accidentally mixed, releasing chlorine fumes. Neighbours noticed the sharp smell and alerted authorities just after midday. Kaufbeuren’s volunteer fire brigade arrived quickly to assess the situation.

The operation concluded without further incidents. The woman received medical checks, though no serious harm was found. Firefighters reminded residents to handle cleaning chemicals with care to avoid similar accidents.
