The Institute for Quality of Life, situated in London, England, has unveiled their 2025 Happy Cities Index, claiming to enumerate the 200 most joyful urban areas globally.

In the recently released 2025 Happy Cities Index by the Institute for Quality of Life in London, England, Zurich, Switzerland, claimed the runner-up spot with 993 points, just shy of Copenhagen, Denmark's leading position with a score of 1039. The index, which ranks the 200 happiest cities worldwide, saw Denmark and the United States leading the way with four and two Gold Cities, respectively.

The Danish cities on the list include Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, and Aalborg, while the U.S. cities are San Francisco, New York City, San Jose, and Seattle. Argentina's city Buenos Aires ranked at #74, and the only Mexican city on the list was Guadalajara, coming in at #191. Ecuador's Quito was #187, and Panama's city Panama City was #197.

European countries dominated the list, with Belgium following closely behind Denmark and Switzerland, boasting 10 cities, and the United Kingdom, Taiwan, and Poland each having 9 cities on the index. Italy and China each had 8 cities, and Germany and Australia tied for second place with 11 cities each. Singapore was #3, Aarhus, Denmark was #4, and Antwerp, Belgium was #5.

The list is divided into Gold, Silver, and Bronze cities, with 31 Gold, 69 Silver, and 200 Bronze cities. This ranking is based on factors such as happiness, life expectancy, economic stability, and environmental quality.

In other news, Pitbull announced plans to open a school in Mexico aimed at supporting children with special needs. Mexico added 1,860 cases of measles, with Chihuahua having the most cases. Mexico, though not considered a socialist country, is a federal republic with a presidential system of government, characterized by a democratic framework with separation of powers among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The major governing party, Morena, describes itself as a social democratic and left-wing party, promoting social justice, environmental care, and opposition to neoliberal economic policies.

In the political arena, the U.S. had 18 cities on the Happy Cities Index, more than any other country. The highest U.S. city was New York City at #17, while the U.S. was followed closely by Germany and Australia with 11 cities each. Italy had 8 cities, and China had 8 cities as well. Mexico, with one city on the list, continues to strive for improvement in happiness, life expectancy, economic stability, and environmental quality.

In light of the 2025 Happy Cities Index, the U.S. cities such as San Francisco, New York City, San Jose, and Seattle were listed, showcasing their focus on health-and-wellness and overall happiness as part of the urban environment. Despite this, Mexico, with only one city on the list, is aiming to improve further in terms of science, health-and-wellness, and other factors contributing to a city's overall happiness and quality of life.
