City Case Managers Trained to Support Young People with Autism
City administration case managers recently participated in a full-day training session to better understand and support young people with autism spectrum disorder. The session was supervised by Anja Roßmeier from the Autism Network Niederbayern/Oberpfalz GmbH.
The training brought together pedagogical experts from different city departments such as General Social Services, Integration Assistance, and School Social Work. They explored the unique needs of young people with autism spectrum disorder, which include understanding, patience, specific knowledge, suitable conditions, communication opportunities, time and space, and retreat and recovery opportunities.
The day was split into two parts. The morning focused on theoretical discussions, delving into the foundation of effective support: considering each young person's strengths, interests, and individual needs. The afternoon involved practical sensory exercises, providing hands-on experience for the participants.
The training aimed to equip case managers with the necessary skills to provide tailored support to young people with autism spectrum disorder. By understanding and addressing their specific needs, the city administration hopes to improve the quality of life for these individuals and their families.
