Cologne Police restructure key services for greater operational efficiency
Cologne Police Headquarters has reorganised its Central Services Directorate to streamline key operations. This division now manages essential administrative, logistical, and legal tasks for the force. Its work spans personnel training, legal enforcement, and technical support across three specialised units.
The directorate is split into three main divisions, each with distinct responsibilities. Division 1 – General Administration & Logistics – covers a wide range of functions, from budget control and procurement to public law claims and data protection. It also enforces regulations under assembly law, association law, and firearms legislation.
Division 2 – Human Resources & Training – focuses on workforce management, including recruitment, training, and professional development. This unit handles service law, working hours, civil service matters, and complaints from officers. It also oversees operational training to ensure personnel are prepared for active duty.
Division 3 – Technology – manages the force's IT infrastructure, including systems engineering, user support, and planning. Additionally, it controls fleet operations, firearms, and equipment distribution. Alongside these divisions, the Police Medical Service provides occupational healthcare, preventive medical support, and fitness-for-detention assessments for detainees.
The restructured directorate ensures that Cologne Police maintain efficient administrative, legal, and technical operations. Each division plays a clear role in supporting frontline officers and managing internal processes. The changes aim to improve coordination across logistics, personnel, and technology within the force.
