In a bid to ensure road safety, two cross-border traffic controls were carried out on the B73 yesterday by approximately 60 police officers from Harburg and Stade, as well as other authorities. The controls, which took place between 4 pm and 10 pm, aimed to address distraction in road traffic and the influence of alcohol or drugs.

During the controls, a total of 129 vehicles were checked on the Lower Saxony side. The results showed that several vehicles had defects in their lighting, two drivers were found to be on the road without a valid driver's license, and one driver was in violation of the compulsory insurance law.

The majority of the punished offenses involved drivers using their smartphones while driving. A significant number of drivers were also found not to be wearing seatbelts. In total, about 40 traffic offenses were punished during the controls.

The Police Chief Commissioner of Harburg, Jan Krüger, oversaw the operations. Kriminaldirektor Thomas Meyn, the head of the Harburg police station, was also present. The Police Station Harburg can be contacted for media inquiries, with contact information including phone, fax, mobile, email, and website.

The traffic controls continue to be conducted across the state border, with the focus on distraction in road traffic and influence by alcohol or drugs remaining the same. The authorities reiterate their commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users and encourage drivers to adhere to traffic laws.
