Covid-19 Active Cases Exceed 300 in Karnataka, Authorities on High Alert
Bengaluru Buzz: With schools reopening post summer break, Karnataka's authorities are on high alert, as the number of active Covid-19 cases exceeds 300 in the state.
In the last 24 hours, 87 new Covid-19 cases have been reported, taking the total active patients to 311. A significant number of patients, 297, are under home quarantine, while 14 are hospitalized, with three in Intensive Care Units.
This Covid resurgence coincides with the rise in Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and influenza cases in the state. According to the Health department sources, the total number of SARI and influenza cases has climbed to 4,536 since January 2021. The previous week saw 154 SARI cases reported.
Health officials warn the public not to ignore symptoms such as fever, cough, fatigue, nose blockage, running nose, headache, breathing issues, and throat pain. Despite the fear of Covid-19, Bengaluru remains a hotspot for the virus, with most active cases being reported from the city.
On a positive note, the State Health Minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, has announced the expansion of the Gruha Arogya Yojana (Home Health Scheme) across the state. This program aims to screen 14 non-communicable diseases and ensure that appropriate medicines reach the individuals from households above 30 years of age. The aim is to proactively prevent non-communicable diseases, a significant threat to people's lives, especially in the current situation.
The ongoing co-circulation of respiratory pathogens, including COVID-19, SARI, and influenza, poses a challenge for regions like Karnataka. While Covid-19 has been the primary driver of severe respiratory illness and hospitalizations, SARI surveillance often identifies new Covid surges first due to its broad and sensitive case definitions. Influenza activity has continued, but generally, it has been overshadowed by COVID-19.
Prevention measures include COVID-19 and annual influenza vaccinations, as well as regular handwashing, use of masks, and respiratory etiquette. Continued monitoring and reporting are essential to manage these co-circulating respiratory pathogens effectively.
So, be aware, stay safe, and follow the recommended preventive measures to keep yourself and your loved ones healthy. Let's fight this pandemic together!
- In the realm of workplace-wellness, promoting medical-conditions screenings and chronic diseases awareness is critical to ensure early detection and treatments.
- To battle the surge in SARI and influenza cases, aside from focusing on COVID-19, we should also prioritize mental-health considerations and skin-care in our health-and-wellness strategies.
- Fitness-and-exercise, coupled with therapies-and-treatments like CBD, could help boost immunity and aid in coping with the stress of these medical conditions and climate-change related effects.
- The environment around us greatly influences our health. It's essential to advocate for environmental-science to tackle climate-change and develop protective measures for our on-going struggle with these interconnected health threats.
- Schools can encourage healthier habits in students through wellness programs emphasizing education, nutrition, and regular exercise as part of their daily schedule.
