A thick layer of ice couldn’t stop two daring swimmers from taking their usual winter dip. Hans and Kerstin braved freezing temperatures at Hagenmoos natural outdoor pool, plunging into water just five degrees above zero. Both have spent years training for moments like this one. The air hovered at four degrees Celsius when the pair arrived. Before they could swim, Hans had to chop through the ice with an axe. The hole he carved gave them just enough space to slip into the water. The swim lasted only minutes, but the preparation took years. Hans and Kerstin left the water as they always do—unshaken by the chill. For them, winter dips are simply part of the season’s rhythm.
