Democrats Scrambling Over Biden's Health Concerns

Unravelling the Mystery: Biden's Health and Its Impact on His Presidency

An unsettling reality is gradually dawning upon Joe Biden's Democratic colleagues in his twilight years: The US President appears to be an older man, no longer fit to fulfill his duties. Despite this realization, Biden's inner circle persists in keeping him in power, according to a new book.

In the final two years of his presidency, Biden experienced moments of forgetfulness, garbled speech, and frequent loss of train of thought. This is the picture painted by the latest book by US journalists, Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson. They allege that Biden's decline has been concealed from the public for the sake of maintaining the appearance of his mental and physical ability.

The book chronicles in minute detail the shock and disbelief among Democratic legislators, White House staff, members of Biden's cabinet, and Democratic donors, as they witnessed the President's diminishing mental and physical faculties. The book describes how Biden embarked on a faltering re-election campaign, with few attempts to dissuade him from it.

Politics - Panic Amidst US DemocratsThe authors claim that Biden's mental and physical decline accelerated significantly in the two years leading up to his disastrous debate with Donald Trump in 2024. In this much-anticipated encounter, Biden was seen as struggling to remember the names of his closest aides and to articulate coherent thoughts.

Tapper and Thompson write that such episodes were not isolated instances, but evidence of an increasingly frail President. They argue that Biden, his family, and his team pursued his re-election bid out of self-interest and fear of a second Trump term, even knowing the potential risks to the nation.

Biden's Decline - A Book Exposé"Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again" was published on Tuesday and is based on more than 200 interviews with insiders from the Democratic Party. Nearly all interviews were conducted after the 2024 election.

Biden's Cancer Diagnosis - Sympathy and DebateThe aging and health of Biden have been subjects of growing concern in recent days. Last Sunday, the White House announced that Biden had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. While the statement emphasized that the President and his family were exploring treatment options, the diagnosis has sparked a wave of sympathy - even from former President Donald Trump.

However, the debate over Biden's fitness to run for re-election continues unabated. Vice President J.D. Vance expressed his wishes for Biden's recovery, but questioned whether the former President was capable of discharging his duties effectively.

On the Record - Biden's Memory LapsesThe book describes several instances of Biden's memory lapses. In December 2022, he reportedly couldn't recall the names of his national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, and his communications director, Kate Bedingfield. In the fall of 2023, he seemed not to recognize Jamie Harrison, the head of the Democratic National Committee - although Harrison disputes this. In early 2024, Biden didn't recognize actor George Clooney, a long-time acquaintance.

Some members of Biden's cabinet expressed doubts about his preparedness to handle a national emergency at odd hours, while others deemed him unfit to lead. Biden was reportedly shielded from public scrutiny by a tight circle, including his wife, son, and long-time advisors, who were referred to as the "Politburo."

The book portrays these close advisors as valuing loyalty over every other consideration. Those not in the inner circle, such as campaign aides, pollsters, and cabinet members, felt excluded and suspicious of their motives for withholding negative information from the President. When Biden decided to run for re-election, neither the White House nor the campaign team had a say in the matter.

In their book, Tapper and Thompson argue that Biden's staff had been concerned about his health as early as 2020, with his mental and physical decline accelerating particularly in the two years leading up to the 2024 debate with Donald Trump.
