With sunny days on the horizon, Danish health authorities have issued stronger recommendations to shield against harmful UV rays. Take a look!
Got sunscreen? You better!
The Danish Health Authority (Sundhedsstyrelsen) urges using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, observing in fresh guidelines released early this week. They also recommend a sun hat and discourage tanning bed use at any time.
Let's keep skin cancer at bay
Skincancer melanomas affect approximately 20,000 individuals yearly in Denmark, and about 9 in 10 cases are considered preventable through proper sun protection. Hence, it's essential to have a factor-30 sunscreen in your arsenal if planning to bask in Denmark's sun.
No shortcuts to healthy skin
The advisory springs from the 'Solgruppen' – a coalition including the Danish Dermatological Society, Danish Meteorological Institute, Danish Cancer Society, Danish Safety Technology Authority, the Ministry of Environment and Gender Equality, Danish Research Center for Skin Cancer, and Danish Health Authority.
Kresten Breddam, Danish Health Authority head of department, affirmed:
Additionally, a Danish Cancer Society study indicated that 14% of 15-25 year-olds have used a solarium within the last year. Evidently, the group intends to strengthen its stance on the use of tanning beds, particularly for younger individuals.
Remember, Denmark boasts the second-highest incidence of melanoma per capita globally, trailing only sun-soaked Australia. So let's avoid that fate and safely soak up the Danish sun with these tips top of mind!
