EmMental Opens Walk-In Clinic in Langnau for Instant Mental Health Support
In the heart of the Emmental region, a new initiative is transforming mental health support. EmMental, a local association, has opened a walk-in clinic in Langnau, offering immediate help to those struggling with mental health issues and their loved ones. This move is part of a broader effort to foster a 'caring community' and encourage open conversations about mental health, particularly among young people.
Sarina Wälti, a 28-year-old who experienced a severe mental health crisis three years ago, is at the forefront of this change. After her own struggle, she decided to break the silence surrounding mental health issues and ensure that those affected feel supported and heard. Wälti, now co-leading EmMental alongside Manuela Grossmann, has seen the association grow to include cities like Langnau and Burgdorf, providing low-threshold support and exchange opportunities.
The association's work is backed by the Bern University of Applied Sciences, fostering collaboration between professionals, advocates, and those with lived experience. Grossmann, a former pastor and co-president of EmMental, believes the association's approachability and visibility help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. Meanwhile, Pro Juventute's helpline (147) offers crucial support to children and young people, providing assistance via phone, WhatsApp, email, or website.
EmMental's walk-in clinic in Langnau, along with other initiatives in the Emmental region, is making mental health support more accessible than ever. By fostering a caring community and encouraging open dialogue, these efforts aim to ensure that no one faces their mental health struggles alone.
