In a bid to tackle the rising COVID-19 cases, the state government of Baden-Württemberg has agreed to impose nighttime curfews in districts with a 7-day incidence of 200 or higher. The ordinance, which will provide regulations for professional reasons and medical emergencies during the curfews, is set to be announced soon.

Pforzheim, the city currently leading with the highest corona infection rate in the state, has a 7-day incidence of 243, according to the latest data. This makes it a Corona hotspot, and the city is expected to be among the first to experience the curfews.

The 7-day incidence, a measure used to track the spread of the Corona virus, is calculated per 100,000 inhabitants. It is calculated from the number of new Corona infections in the last seven days. The higher the incidence, the faster the virus is spreading within a specific area.

Restrictions on event bans in hotspot areas will be specified in the ordinance. It is likely to contain specific restrictions for event bans in hotspot areas, aiming to tackle infection trends in Corona hotspots.

Despite the increasing infection rates, most Covid-19 rules have largely been lifted in Baden-Württemberg. Basic protective measures such as mask-wearing may still be in place in specific settings like hospitals or care facilities. However, general public restrictions on events or gatherings are no longer emphasized or mandated.

In places like the Schloessle-Galerie shopping center in Pforzheim, visitors report feeling safe and note that all corona rules are still adhered to within shops and gastronomy sectors. This suggests that businesses are voluntarily maintaining some preventive measures even without formal restrictions on public life.

The curfews, which involve significant restrictions on public life, are in response to the Corona pandemic. The ordinance will also regulate exceptions to the curfews and restrictions on events in hotspot areas.
