EU-CIP Launches: €12M Boosting Cancer Care Info Access Across Europe
A groundbreaking project, EU-CIP, has kicked off under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Roland Eils, director of the Center for Digital Health at the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH). Backed by €12 million from the Horizon Europe program, this four-year initiative aims to boost cancer care information access across Europe.
EU-CIP, part of the European Cancer Patient Digital Centre (ECPDC) and the European plan for cancer, will establish initial national and regional portals in 11 member states. Each portal will feature a multilingual AI chatbot, ensuring accessible, up-to-date, evidence-based content in understandable language.
The project unites 40 partners from 18 countries, including patient organisations, clinical institutions, and technology experts. Notably, the Cancer Information Service of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg is a key development partner for content and infrastructure. The project's development and implementation will be participatory, involving patients, medical professionals, and infrastructure experts.
EU-CIP, with its €12 million funding, seeks to increase health literacy, empower patients, and promote equal access to cancer care information. By creating a European network of patient-centered, trustworthy cancer information portals, the project aligns with the European plan for cancer and supports the broader European Cancer Patient Digital Centre.
