Expanded Recall of Coolers Increases Product Count to 130,000 Units
Update on Igloo Cooler Recall: More Than a Million Units Involved Due to Injury Risks
Hey there! Got some news for you about those Igloo coolers. Turns out, the recall has grown bigger than initially thought. Originally, Igloo recalled over a million coolers back in February due to fingertip injury risks. Now, they've expanded that recall to include an additional 130,000 coolers.
Why the expansion? Well, it's all about the tow handle on certain coolers. You see, this handle can pinch fingers, creating a real hazard that poses risks of crushing, amputation, and fractures. Since the initial recall, there have been 78 reported injuries — with 26 cases resulting in fingertip amputations or severe injuries. Ouch!
Now, these newly recalled coolers were manufactured before January 2024. To find the manufacture date, just look for a circular pattern on the bottom of the cooler, where an arrow points to the month of manufacture and the last two digits of the year are inside the circle. If you spot "IGLOO" printed on the side, you might be holding onto one of the recalled units.
These coolers were sold at various stores nationwide, including Costco, Target, Academy, Dick's, and more. You could also find them online on Amazon, Igloo's official website, and other sites between January 2019 and January 2025, with prices ranging from $80 to $140. Beyond the U.S., roughly 20,000 coolers have been recalled in Canada, and about 5,900 in Mexico.
So, which models are involved in this expanded recall? Here are the details:
- Model: 34692 Description: LATITUDE 90 QT ROLLER Date Code: 07/2020-09/2021
- Model: 34785 Description: LATITUDE 90 QT ROLLER Date Code: 10/2021-12/2022
- Model: 34790 Description: MAXCOLD LATITUDE 90 QT ROLLER Date Code: 10/2021-02/2023
If you happen to own one of these recalled coolers, stop using it immediately and contact Igloo for a free replacement handle. Their customer service line is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, at 888-943-5182.
