Fire restored: train service resumes at two affected stations

Frankenberg District Hospital has taken another step towards normalcy with the recent reopening of two wards, including Ward 9, one year after a devastating fire. The reopening is part of the hospital's ongoing renovation efforts and is in line with the 'lean hospital' concept, aiming for time savings and efficiency.

The fire, which started in a patient's room on October 31, 2024, caused extensive damage and led to the temporary closure of the affected wards. Patients were distributed across other wards, and staff and patients had to navigate numerous detours due to the closure of corridors in front of wards 7 and 9.

The reopening of Ward 9, located at the main entrance level, has eliminated these detours, as it now serves as a central hub for orthopedic, trauma, and spine surgery patients. This reallocation results in no need for staff or patients to change floors to reach the operating room and radiology departments.

Dr. Oliver Schuppan, chief of orthopedics and trauma surgery, indicated that the staff's suggestion to swap ward levels was a key decision in the renovation process. He believes that the reopening will result in considerable time savings for the staff on the ward with the most surgical and radiology patients.

The renovation work at the hospital has allowed for a review of processes and routes, leading to significant improvements for both patients and staff. A spokesperson for the hospital provided this information to HIT RADIO FFH.

Unfortunately, a patient died in the fire, and thirteen others were affected by smoke inhalation. The extensive damage from the fire may prevent a full determination of its cause. Construction work is ongoing at the hospital, with the renovation of the ward where the fire originally broke out being a focus.

The renovation of the ward was completed in 1890 and celebrated with a large mission festival in Carlsburg despite heavy rain. This renovation work has been focused on improving processes and routes to enhance efficiency and patient care. The reopening of Ward 9 marks another step towards normalcy at Frankenberg District Hospital following the fire.
