Firefighters rescue 350kg teacher in emergency hospital transfer
A 40-year-old teacher weighing 350kg needed urgent medical help after falling ill at home. Firefighters were called in the early hours to assist in moving him safely to the general hospital. The man had been suffering from a fever and severe pain for over a week before the incident occurred.
The teacher's wife contacted the Fire and Rescue Department at 2.56 am when he became too weak to move. A team of eight firefighters arrived at the scene by 3.08 am. They found the man in the bathroom, struggling with pain from a bacterial leg infection and asthma.
Calming him down took time, as his condition made movement difficult. The confined space added to the challenge, stretching the operation to around 20 minutes. Once stabilised, he was carefully transported to Alor Gajah Hospital in a fire department vehicle.
The teacher had been on medical leave due to a persistent fever. His weight and health complications required specialised handling, but no Malaysian hospitals currently have dedicated units for treating extremely obese patients with severe infections and respiratory issues.
The firefighters successfully moved the teacher to hospital for further treatment. His case highlights the difficulties in managing severe obesity combined with acute medical conditions. No updates on his current condition have been released.
