Following Extended Medical Absence, Taraba Deputy Governor Denied Access to Media and Public
It's been four mad months since Alhaji Aminu Alkari, the cocky Deputy Governor of Taraba State, jetted off to Egypt for some secretive medical treatment. fast forward to May 4th, 2025, and he mysteriously showed up in Jalingo, sparking a buzz of confusion and suspicion about his health and role in the government.
After reportedly suffering a partial stroke in November 2024, Aminu zipped off to Egypt, leaving his duties behind and creating a power vacuum in Taraba. Three long months later, he resurfaced in Abuja, but his return to Jalingo was damn near hush-hush.
Danbaba Suntai Airport employees confirmed that a private chartered jet landed at 1:40 a.m. on May 4th, 2025, with Aminu aboard, under heavy security. A couple of government vehicles waited patiently for hours before the jet touched down. Airport workers were kept at bay – only after the plane took off did the security personnel spill the beans.
Upon arriving in Jalingo, Aminu didn't rush back to his office along Specialist Hospital Road, behind the Presidential Lodge. His office remained empty, and he wasn't spotted back at work. It seems he's biding his time, awaiting the return of Governor Agbu Kefas before making any public appearances.
A close confidant, asking to remain anonymous, revealed that strict orders were given not to grant anyone access to Aminu until Governor Kefas get's back to the state. "It's not about resuming work – the orders are clear: the governor must return first before any access or official statement will be granted," the source said.
While the state government has been tight-lipped about Aminu's situation, attempts to get a comment proved futile. Emmanuel Bello, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, stonewalled questions, directing those interested to contact the press secretary. "Go and call his press secretary. I'm not his press secretary to speak for him," he retorted.
Interestingly, Aminu's office hasn't appointed a press secretary since he took office on May 29, 2023. Secrets, mysteries, and confusion – the return of Aminu Alkari has got everyone in Taraba buzzing, and the cloak-and-dagger atmosphere surrounding his health and role in the government isn't helping matters.
