Food Network Star Anne Burrell Dies by Suicide at 55
Food Network star Anne Burrell has died at the age of 55. Her body was discovered in her Brooklyn home on the morning of June 17, 2025. Authorities later ruled her death a suicide caused by acute drug intoxication. Burrell was last seen alive in the early hours of June 16, performing at a Brooklyn comedy club. She took part in an improv show, finishing around 1:00 AM.
At approximately 7:40 AM the next day, her husband, Stuart Claxton, found her unresponsive in the shower. Paramedics arrived shortly after but did not administer Narcan, an overdose-reversing drug. They pronounced her dead at around 8:00 AM. The New York City medical examiner confirmed the cause of death as 'acute intoxication' from a mix of amphetamine, alcohol, diphenhydramine, and cetirizine. Investigators also found a suicidal note and troubling journal entries in her bedroom. Photos from the scene revealed dozens of pills and empty medicine bottles scattered in the bathroom.
The medical examiner's ruling closed the case as a suicide. Burrell's death follows a long career in television, where she became widely known for her energetic cooking shows. No further details on the investigation have been released.
