Garfield crushes a car to expose America’s overweight cat crisis

A new campaign is tackling the growing issue of overweight felines in the U.S. IAMS has teamed up with Garfield to raise awareness about feline obesity. The initiative comes as data shows 60% of American cats are heavier than they should be—yet most owners don’t realise it’s a problem.

The campaign kicks off with a bold installation at Minnesota’s Mall of America. A giant billboard, tipped by Garfield’s cartoon weight, dramatically crushes a parked car. Visitors on November 21-22 can also stop by the IAMS Healthy Weight Hub for Cats to pick up coupons for the brand’s new dry food formula.

The partnership with Garfield aims to grab attention while delivering a serious message. With only 28% of cat owners recognising obesity in their pets, the campaign pushes for better awareness. Free resources, product samples, and expert advice will be available to help owners support their cats’ weight loss journeys.
