George Russell Campbell: A Life of Service and Community

George Russell Campbell, a beloved figure in the Sheridan community, passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on April 27, 1944, in Sheridan, Wyoming, George spent his formative years in various towns across the state, including Echeta, Newcastle, Gillette, and Casper.

In his teenage years, George enlisted in the Navy for four years, marking the beginning of a life dedicated to service. After his military service, he returned to Casper where he embarked on a career in the food industry, following in his mother's footsteps.

George was a colourful and compassionate individual, known for his generosity and personal warmth. He was actively involved in the community, volunteering his time with organisations such as the Jaycees and the Self Help Home Program. His love for woodworking led him to create numerous items for others, bringing joy and satisfaction to both the maker and the recipient.

In his personal life, George married Peggy Wicker in 1976 and was married for 30 years before she passed away in 2016. After meeting Charlotte in the early 1990s, they married in 1998. George welcomed Charlotte's three children—Lacy, Nicole, and Tanner—as his own, and the family enjoyed many years together, travelling and spending time with extended family.

In more recent years, George found a spiritual home at the Cowboy Church of the Big Horns, where he became a dedicated member since 2018.

George is survived by his son Doug, grandchildren Alexander and Shawn Hope, brother David Campbell and wife Helen, and extended family. Arrangements for George are under the care of Sheridan Funeral Home, with details of the Celebration of Life to be announced. Online condolences can be made at www.sheridanfuneral.com.

George will be missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the community he served, and the generosity he showed to those in need. His memory will be a blessing to those who loved him.

Note: George retired to Sheridan from Omaha, NE in 2008, and passed away due to complications of COPD and pneumonia. A Celebration of Life for George Russell Campbell is planned for November 28, 2025.

George, in his retirement years, moved back to Sheridan from Omaha, NE due to health issues related to chronic respiratory conditions, specifically COPD.

His later years were marked by his battle with medical conditions, particularly chronic respiratory diseases like COPD and pneumonia.

Despite these health challenges, George continued to show his dedication to health and wellness by attending the Cowboy Church of the Big Horns, where he remained an active member.
