In roughly every fourth household in Germany, there is a fitness device - Germans embrace fitness as daily exercise and home workouts surge

Germans are spending more time staying active, with daily exercise habits on the rise. In 2022, people aged ten and older averaged 34 minutes of physical activity each day—five minutes more than a decade earlier. Alongside this trend, home fitness equipment has also become increasingly common across the country.

The average time spent on daily physical activity climbed from 29 minutes in 2012 to 34 minutes in 2022. This gradual increase reflects a growing focus on fitness among the population.

By 2023, fitness devices had found their way into 12.9 million German households. This accounted for roughly one in four homes, up from 23.3 percent five years earlier. The data shows a clear link between income and equipment ownership: 35.8 percent of households earning €5,000 or more per month had such devices. In contrast, only 12.3 percent of those with incomes below €1,300 owned home fitness equipment.

No specific figures were available for the exact number of high-income households with fitness devices in 2022. However, the overall trend suggests a steady rise in both activity levels and equipment ownership over time.

The figures highlight a shift towards more active lifestyles in Germany, with both exercise time and home fitness equipment becoming more widespread. Higher-income households lead in adopting these trends, while lower-income groups remain less likely to invest in home exercise gear.
