Germany Holds Top 10 Spot in Global Retirement Index 2021 Despite Financial Slip

Germany has maintained a strong position in the Global Retirement Index (GRI) 2021, ranking among the top 10 countries. This is largely due to its robust performances in health and material wealth. However, the country's financial scores for retirees have slipped compared to last year.

The GRI, published by Natixis Investment Managers and CoreData, assesses countries across four sub-areas: health, quality of life, material wealth, and finances. Germany has seen improvements in health and material wealth since last year, with quality of life scores remaining stable. Despite these positives, Germany struggles with the old-age dependency ratio, ranking sixth-worst among the surveyed countries.

In the international ranking, countries like Australia and New Zealand offer better conditions for retirees. Germany does not feature among the top countries for retiree living conditions.

While Germany continues to perform well in several key areas, its financial scores for retirees have declined. The country also faces challenges with its old-age dependency ratio. Despite these issues, Germany remains among the top 10 countries in the GRI 2021, thanks to strong performances in health and material wealth.
