A walkable brain? New exhibition house coming - Germany's Bold New Center Will Turn Addiction Into an Immersive Experience
Erfurt's World of Temptations Foundation is planning a first-of-its-kind exhibition center focused on addiction. The project, backed by Germany's Federal Ministry of Health, aims to blend art, science, and interactive learning. Organizers hope to open the facility by autumn 2027.
The foundation recently previewed its approach with an exhibition titled Only Good Vibes? Cannabis, Smoke, and Reality. This early showcase highlighted the center's future direction—combining research, education, and public engagement.
A key attraction will be the Brain Space, featuring an interactive brain model and a walk-through exhibit. Visitors will explore how addiction affects the brain through hands-on displays. The center will also host permanent and rotating exhibitions, alongside art installations addressing different forms of dependency.
Beyond public exhibits, the Innovation Hub will serve as a workspace for addiction researchers and healthcare professionals. The goal is to foster collaboration and develop new strategies for treatment and prevention.
Preparation for the site is already underway. Archaeological surveys will begin this spring, with construction set to follow. The project comes as German government data reveals that 21.2 million adults nationwide struggle with dependencies or harmful substance use.
The exhibition center will offer a mix of scientific insight, artistic expression, and practical resources. With federal funding secured, the foundation expects to complete the project by late 2027. The facility aims to raise awareness and support those affected by addiction.
