Germany's Private Insurers Now Offer 24/7 Paediatric Telemedicine for Families

Medgate's Progressive Kids Line telemedicine service is now available across Germany's private health insurance market. The 24/7 video consultation platform, designed for paediatric care, has been integrated by 12 insurers, including Allianz and Debeka. Parents can access medical advice for children with acute illnesses or unclear symptoms at any time.

The service was first tested under the name TeleDoc4Kids in September 2023, developed with Debeka's support. Real-world trials confirmed its effectiveness in reducing unnecessary in-person visits. A 2023 study from German-speaking Switzerland showed that 54.3% of paediatric cases were fully resolved via telemedicine, while 91.7% of initial assessments were judged appropriate.

Kids Line operates alongside traditional paediatric care, offering quick triage and guidance for concerned parents. According to Medgate, 76.9% of families using the service would have otherwise gone to an emergency department. The platform follows Germany's standard physician fee schedule, with consultations costing between €38 and €70.

From February 2026, the service became widely available through private insurers like Barmenia and Allianz. It is also open to self-paying patients. The standardised model allows insurers to integrate it smoothly into existing care systems.

The expansion of Kids Line gives private health insurance customers in Germany faster access to paediatric advice. With 12 insurers now on board, the service aims to ease pressure on emergency departments. Consultations remain priced within the national fee structure, ensuring predictable costs for users.
