Singer Gil Ofarim has spoken openly about the severe personal and professional fallout from his false antisemitism claim in 2021. The case, which he later admitted fabricating, led to legal battles, financial hardship, and deep psychological struggles.

His lawyer, Dr. Alexander Stevens, has since accused critics of spreading defamatory and criminally punishable statements about the singer.

In 2021, Ofarim publicly accused a Leipzig hotel employee of antisemitic behaviour. The claim gained widespread attention before he retracted it in court two years later. His admission came after prolonged legal proceedings, during which he faced intense public backlash.

The singer revealed that the ordeal pushed him into severe depression. He questioned his purpose in life and turned to alcohol for coping. For eight months, he underwent treatment in a clinic to address his psychological distress. Financially, the consequences were equally harsh. Ofarim sold prized possessions and was forced to relocate. Since the incident, he has also commuted 1,400 kilometres every other weekend to visit his children, who live far away. His lawyer, Dr. Alexander Stevens, has strongly defended him against ongoing criticism. Stevens accused detractors of making unverified claims and spreading criminally punishable insults. He also warned that some social media posts contained false allegations with potential legal consequences. Behind the scenes, Stevens consulted high-profile lawyer Rebekka Herzberg, who reportedly advised taking legal action against critics. Ofarim remains legally restricted from discussing the incident while appearing on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! The show's rules prevent him from addressing the case publicly during his participation.

The false accusation and its aftermath have left lasting marks on Ofarim's life. Legal restrictions, financial strain, and personal struggles continue to shape his situation. Meanwhile, his legal team remains active in challenging what they describe as defamatory attacks against him.
