Global Experts Converge in Sochi to Tackle COVID-19 Sleep Disorders
A major medical conference on sleep disorders linked to COVID-19 will take place in Sochi on April 9. Titled ‘The COVID-19 Pandemic: Diagnosis and Treatment of Sleep Disorders’, the event brings together experts from Russia, Israel, and the United States. Organisers aim to highlight the growing importance of sleep medicine in pandemic recovery and modern resort-based therapy.
The conference will gather specialists from leading institutions, including Sechenov University in Moscow, the First Pavlov State Medical University of St. Petersburg, and the Russian Society of Somnology. Representatives from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education will also attend. Discussions will focus on sleep disturbances caused by COVID-19 and the potential of melatonin in both prevention and treatment.
A new somnology laboratory will officially open as part of the event. Delegates will explore ways to expand treatment options for sleep disorders during the pandemic. The conference also seeks to help healthcare leaders establish regional sleep medicine centres, improving access to specialised care. Vladislav Davydov, chief physician at a local medical centre, stressed the role of quality sleep in post-COVID rehabilitation. The facility already offers tailored recovery programs for survivors, featuring advanced therapies such as xenon and helium inhalations.
The event will promote clinical somnology as a key component of modern healthcare, particularly in resort settings. By sharing research and best practices, attendees hope to strengthen sleep disorder treatments across regions. The inauguration of the somnology lab marks a step toward better diagnostics and patient support.
