Grisha the swan finds forever home after frostbite rescue

A severely injured swan named Grisha has found a permanent home after being rescued last winter. The bird arrived with frostbitten legs and wings but has since recovered under careful treatment. Now, he lives alongside four other swans in a family's yard in Belarus. Grisha was discovered in critical condition in Zhlobin during the winter of 2025. His legs and wings suffered severe frostbite, leaving him unable to move properly. On December 29, Liubou Iosifauna took him in and contacted veterinarian Ryhor Bialiahou, who performed surgery and nursed the swan back to health.

At first, Grisha struggled to adapt, and the other swans also showed signs of stress. Over time, they settled in well. The group now includes Nyusha and Vanyusha, both with damaged feathers but otherwise healthy, and Glafira, who may need further surgery for an injured wing. The Shyshlankouskis family cares for all five swans in their yard. Their diet consists of oats, barley, wheat, mixed grain, and fresh vegetables. Grisha, in particular, has never left the family's property since his arrival.

Grisha's recovery marks a rare success for an injured wild swan. The family continues to monitor his health alongside the other birds. With proper care, the swans now live comfortably in their new environment.
