Elderly Women Pushed to the Ground - Perpetrator Must Undergo Therapy - Hamburg attacker with schizophrenia avoids prison but faces forced psychiatric care
A 37-year-old man has been ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment after attacking two elderly women in Hamburg-Rahlstedt. The court ruled that he was not criminally responsible due to diminished capacity caused by paranoid schizophrenia and alcohol addiction. Both victims suffered serious injuries in the unprovoked assaults.
The incident took place when the defendant shoved an 86-year-old woman to the ground. She sustained a fractured upper arm and pelvic ring. He then targeted an 87-year-old woman, leaving her with a severely bruised hip joint and a deep contusion.
During his arrest and transport, the man verbally abused police officers and made threats. Medical assessments later confirmed his diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia alongside long-term alcohol dependency.
The judge declared that the defendant must remain in treatment, warning that he poses a risk to public safety if left unsupervised. Under the court's decision, he will face biweekly hospital checks once the ruling becomes final. Currently, he is receiving medication and supervision as part of his ongoing care.
The court's ruling means the man will not serve a prison sentence but must comply with mandatory psychiatric care. His treatment will be closely monitored to prevent further harm. The victims' injuries, including fractures and severe bruising, were confirmed in medical reports following the attack.
