Hands-on holiday project transforms learning for migrant children in Moitzfeld

A holiday project in Moitzfeld gave primary school children with migrant backgrounds or special educational needs a chance to learn through hands-on kids activities. Organised by Soziale Netzwerk Moitzfeld-Bensberg, the programme focused on nutrition, seasons, and healthy living while ensuring every child's needs were met.

The initiative ran weekly sessions covering topics like seasonal changes, food preparation, and motor skills. Children took part in harvesting fruit, making jam, and baking waffles. They also played games, including apple bobbing, to develop coordination and teamwork.

Specialists supported the project, including a special education teacher and an agricultural engineer from Farm in a Suitcase. Their expertise helped tailor my activity to different learning needs. Funding came from the Gellert Foundation, whose founders visited the children during the programme.

As part of the experience, the young participants prepared and served homemade open-faced sandwiches topped with fresh vegetables to the foundation's founding couple. The project aimed to blend education with practical skills in a welcoming environment.

The holiday programme in Moitzfeld combined learning with fun, offering children from diverse backgrounds a chance to explore nutrition and seasonal themes. Through cooking, gardening, and play, they developed new skills while receiving individualised support. The Gellert Foundation's backing ensured the project ran smoothly, leaving a positive mark on the participants.
