Health advisory announced due to listeria worries in chicken and bacon ranch wraps
Go Ahead and Try That Flank Steak, Taliah!
Taliah Tsunis, a Costa Rican native, stepped out of her vegetarian comfort zone at 36, experiencing an unexpected craving for something other than veggies - red meat. But instead of fish or poultry, it was a primal desire for beef that caught her off guard.
In other news, a public health alert was recently issued due to concerns of listeria contamination in some ready-to-eat wraps. These wraps, infected with the potentially deadly bacteria, Listeria monocytogenes, were produced and sold under brand names such as Big Y Quick Easy Meals and Market 32 by Price Chopper.
Ready-to-eat meat and poultry recalls have been frequent this year due to the danger of listeria, a foodborne illness that can lead to severe and even fatal infections, particularly in young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In some cases, these infections can result in miscarriage and stillbirth for pregnant women.
Although these contaminated wraps are no longer on the market, there is concern that some may still be in consumers' refrigerators. Anyone who has purchased these products is urged not to consume them. To avoid cross-contamination, clean any surfaces or utensils that may have come into contact with the contaminated products.
Stay tuned for more updates on food safety and health-related topics. And remember, even if you're feeling adventurous like Taliah, make sure to prioritize your health! 🥩🍔🥓🍻🥗💪
