Healthcare Workers Unite to Combat Domestic Violence in Herford Conference
A recent conference in Herford highlighted the vital role of healthcare workers in tackling domestic violence. Titled 'Domestic Violence and the UnitedHealthcare System: Recognition, Intervention, Cooperation', the main event brought together professionals from hospitals, emergency services, and social care. Organised by the Specialist Forum Against Domestic Violence and Herford-Bünde District Hospitals, it aimed to improve support for survivors in medical settings.
The full-day workshop took place at the Herford location of the District Hospitals Herford-Bünde. Attendees included hospital staff, emergency medical responders, fire department dispatchers, and child welfare representatives. Angelika May, a speaker at the event, shared practical strategies for intervention and stressed the need for better communication between different services.
The event reinforced how crucial hospitals and clinics are in identifying and aiding domestic violence survivors. With better training and teamwork, healthcare workers can play a stronger role in early intervention. Organisers hope the strategies shared will lead to more effective support for those at risk.
