Hessen to teach all students in CPR - Hesse to Make CPR Training Mandatory for Seventh Graders by 2028

Hesse is expanding its CPR education program in collaboration with various organizations, aiming to save lives by equipping young people with crucial skills. By 2026, around 60,000 youngsters will have learned CPR, with mandatory training for seventh graders by 2028.

Currently, many sudden cardiac arrest victims die due to delayed resuscitation. To tackle this, Hesse has been rolling out CPR training since 2024. By the end of this academic year, approximately 60,000 young people will have learned the lifesaving skill.

By 2028, CPR training will be compulsory for all seventh graders in Hesse's secondary schools, a first on this scale in Germany. Already, 390 out of 720 schools have taught CPR to their seventh-grade students. On November 4, Education Minister Armin Schwarz will visit Freiherr-vom-Stein School in Eppstein to practice CPR with students.

With over 65,000 lives lost annually to sudden cardiac arrest in Germany, this initiative is crucial. By teaching CPR to young people, Hesse is empowering its future generations to respond effectively in emergencies, potentially saving thousands of lives.
