The Macmillan Mighty Hikes are back for another year, offering participants the opportunity to embark on challenging charity walks while raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Although the exact details of the 2022 events are not yet fully available, previous editions have featured a variety of scenic routes across the UK.

Participants collectively walked an impressive 438,000 miles (704,900km) during the events in previous years, with around 24,000 people taking part in 2021 alone. The series of events this year will take trekkers through 12 scenic countryside routes, including the idyllic Thames path and Northumbria coastal route.

The Macmillan Mighty Hikes are designed to provide physical, emotional, and financial support to people affected by cancer. The initiative raised more than £10.2 million in 2021, demonstrating the significant impact these events have on the lives of those affected by the disease.

Craig Fordham, director of public fundraising at Macmillan, expressed his support for the initiative, saying, "The Macmillan Mighty Hikes are a fantastic way for people to come together and make a real difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. We're incredibly grateful for the support of everyone who takes part in these events."

Registration for the Macmillan Mighty Hikes is typically done online through the official Macmillan Cancer Support website or affiliated event pages. These events are open to individuals aged 18 and over, with options for different levels of challenge and distance. Interested volunteers can also sign up via Macmillan's volunteering portal or event-specific web pages to support logistics, registration, and safety during the hikes.

Outdoor specialist Decathlon has created a dedicated mighty hike kit list, which includes a variety of hiking essentials like boots, waterproofs, and backpacks. The recommended trekking poles for the hikes help alleviate pressure when walking on the trails, while the recommended hiking pants for the colder months ensure that weather doesn't impede the hikers' progress.

The hikes are open to trekkers of all abilities and run from May until September. Participants are encouraged to fundraise or donate to Macmillan Cancer Support through official online platforms on event pages or directly via the Macmillan website. Some 15% of every purchase from the kit list will be donated to Macmillan.

For precise routes, exact 2022 dates, and sign-up links, we recommend visiting the official Macmillan Cancer Support website or their Mighty Hikes event page. The events generally feature well-marked routes with support stations, and they promote community participation to raise funds for cancer support services.
