Households urged to address disinfection of their drinking water supply
In the small town of Horsdorf, located within the Lichtenfels district, a boil order has been issued due to the detection of bacterial contamination in the central drinking water supply. This order, effective immediately, applies to food preparation, teeth brushing, and cleaning open wounds, among other uses.
The boil order requires residents to boil water once and then let it cool slowly for at least 10 minutes before use. This measure is a precautionary step to protect the population from potential bacterial infections. Similar boil orders have recently been implemented in the Hof district and the Bayreuth area.
The city of Bad Staffelstein, where Horsdorf is situated, has initiated emergency measures in response to the detected contamination. It is recommended that residents use a water boiler for practical reasons. Tap water can still be used for personal hygiene, cleaning utensils, cleaning laundry, and flushing toilets.
It is important to note that this boil order only affects certain households within the Lichtenfels district and does not extend to the entire region. The boil order for Horsdorf is a time-limited measure, with the aim of restoring the water quality through steps such as chlorination. The boil order for the affected households in Horsdorf is expected to remain in effect until the results of the bacteriological examination are satisfactory, which usually takes between six and ten days.
This boil order is the latest in a series of such measures taken in Franconia, particularly in response to contamination of drinking water or technical difficulties. The good news is that the boil order for the affected households in Horsdorf ended on September 18, 2025.
Residents are advised to stay informed and follow the instructions of local authorities regarding the boil order. By taking these precautions, everyone can help ensure their health and safety during this time.
