How Different Teas Boost Your Health in Surprising Ways

Tea is more than just a comforting drink—it can be packed with nutrients that bring real health benefits. From soothing herbal blends to traditional camellia varieties, different types offer unique advantages. Some boost heart health, others ease inflammation, and a few even help with digestion or allergies.

Tea falls into two broad categories: camellia teas and herbal teas. Camellia teas come from the Camellia sinensis plant and include black, green, white, oolong, red, pu-erh, and yellow varieties. Herbal teas, on the other hand, are made from roots, flowers, or spices, such as ginger, chamomile, or hibiscus.

Black tea is fully oxidised, giving it a bold flavour and higher caffeine content. Its polyphenols support heart health. Green tea, which is lightly oxidised, has a milder taste and less caffeine. Studies link it to benefits for immunity, metabolism, and gut health. White tea, the least processed of all, has a delicate flavour and may help with wound healing and skin repair.

Herbal teas bring their own strengths. Ginger turmeric tea combines anti-inflammatory properties from turmeric with ginger’s ability to ease pain and aid digestion. Lemon tea provides vitamin C and limonene, a compound with mood-boosting effects. Hibiscus tea is rich in rutin and quercetin, which help manage allergies by stabilising mast cells.

Each type of tea offers distinct health perks, whether through antioxidants, vitamins, or soothing properties. Choosing between camellia and herbal options depends on taste preferences and desired benefits. The variety ensures there’s a brew to suit almost any need.
