Tattoos on Scars of the Past at Lüneburg Museum - How Tattoos Are Turning Scars Into Symbols of Strength in Lüneburg
An intriguing exhibition, 'OVERCOME: Tattoo Ideas Over Scars of the Past', is currently underway at Lüneburg Museum. Running until February 22, 2023, it showcases eight young individuals who have transformed their self-harm scars into powerful symbols of resilience through tattoos.
The exhibition is not just a display of art; it's a journey of healing and overcoming. Each tattoo tells a story of a young person's past struggles and their journey towards recovery. All participants had sought professional help, with Vicky Richter, head physician at the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, emphasising the importance of such support.
Heike Düselder, the museum's director, has been instrumental in bringing this exhibition to life. She has worked closely with tattoo artist Daniel Bluebird, known for his gentle touch and empathetic approach when working with sensitive scar tissue. Bluebird often listens to clients' life stories, making the tattooing process a therapeutic experience.
The exhibition is accompanied by various events, including book readings, guided tours, and discussion evenings focused on mental health crises. Collaborations with the Psychiatric Clinic of Lüneburg further enrich the experience, offering insights into the healing process and the role of tattoos in it.
The 'OVERCOME' exhibition serves as a testament to the power of transformation and the importance of seeking help during crises. By sharing their stories, these young individuals inspire others to overcome their own challenges and seek support when needed.
