Increased Import of Fruits and Vegetables to Omsk Region by Over 30 Thousand Tons, Reflecting a Six-Fold Rise in Six Months

Imports of fruits and vegetables to the Omsk region have nearly tripled, surging sixfold within the past six months.

The Omsk region in Russia has seen a significant increase in imports of various fruits, vegetables, and beverages during the first half of 2025. According to Rosselkhoznadzor, the country's agricultural watchdog, the region imported 32,590 tons of these products, a figure six times higher than the same period last year.

Uzbekistan, a key supplier, accounts for 96.6% of the total volume of imports, providing grapes, tomatoes, beets, and other fruits and vegetables. Iran contributes watermelons, while China provides lemons, peanuts, and tea. India and Tajikistan also supply tea and apricots, respectively.

However, this surge in imports has not been without issues. Rosselkhoznadzor reported 72 cases of product contamination with microorganisms and pests from January 9 to June 30, 2025, significantly exceeding the 12 cases recorded in the same period last year. As a result, 10 batches of fruits were treated, and 11 batches of tomatoes and roses were destroyed.

Meanwhile, the Vrubel Museum's underground gallery in the Omsk region is facing legal challenges. The Omsk prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit due to concerns over the gallery's operation or construction, which typically reflects issues with safety standards, preservation regulations, or administrative requirements. The gallery is currently undergoing review or legal proceedings, and its status may change depending on the outcome of the case and the museum's response to the prosecutor's office's demands.

If you require more detailed information about the specific reasons cited in the lawsuit or recent developments on the status of the gallery, please let me know, and I will provide the latest updates.
